Animal abuse? Man profits parading dogs in sunglasses

An enterprising Taiwanese man took five dogs to attractions in the southern Taiwanese city of Kaohsiung and forced them them to pose for photos with tourists, who he asked to pay around 30 cents for the privilege.

The dogs were forced to wear sunglasses and sit erect at attractions in unseasonably cold weather.

These fashionable pups attracted many tourists; so many their owner reportedly earn more than $15 in three hours parading his pooches.

The man defended his business, saying the small amounts of money go toward paying for dog food. The animals may rest, eat and drink water at times during the "working" hours, he says.

Animal rights activists, however, believe his behaviour constitutes abuse as he does this regardless of the weather.

Staff from the Kaohsiung city Animal Protection Office visited the site and found nothing amiss and say they see nothing wrong with the man's actions.

One vet said it's unnatural for dogs to sit straight for long periods as it could hurt their spines.
