A Canadian man reportedly killed himself when he jumped from Suvarnabhumi airport terminal building in Bangkok, Thailand on Sunday (March 2).

According to the Bangkok Post, a 64-year-old Canadian man reportedly jumped from the fourth storey walkway leading to gate 10 of the terminal, which is 16 meters above the ground. The man was seriously wounded and was rushed to a hospital, but later succumbed to his injuries.

The man entered Thailand on January 16 and had booked a flight back to Canada on March 22, but appeared to have decided to return early, the Bangkok Post reported. Police are attempting to contact his family and the Canadian embassy.

Seven people have fallen to their deaths from the elevated walkways since the airport opened in 2006. Most were reportedly suicides. Following the suicides, the airport announced in October last year it would install 2.3-meter high laminate glass barriers in addition to the existing 1.1-meter high metal railings along the walkways. The extra glass barriers were scheduled to be fully installed in May, but authorities said they would try to finish the work by April following the latest suicide.
