The Prava Sessions: A Brood of Vipers (Full Episode)

Philadelphia’s A Brood of Vipers came by the studio to rip all of your faces off with their blend of psychedelic garage punk. Their influences are evident; from Roky Erickson to The Stooges to The Misfits, you can hear it all—but it all comes together to create a sound that is all their own.

Band Bio:

Formed October 2012, A Brood of Vipers is an experimental garage rock band from Philadelphia. It was founded by Eric Bower, formerly of The Strychnine Babies and Roger Segal, of Sorry and the Sinatras. With progressive arrangements of haunting organ and blues soaked proto-punk guitar tones, the music contains sonic elements ranging anywhere from The Crazy World of Arthur Brown to early Misfits.

The idea of the band started as an experiment for Bower influenced by his interests in classic horror and garage music in the likes of Roky Erickson and The Stooges. Segal (Bass/Vocals), recognizing the project as an opportunity to re-kindle his passion for music, decided to collaborate with Bower. With plans of obtaining a more dynamic sound with a new flavor, the two set out to find seasoned players with diverse musical backgrounds. After months of auditioning, they brought in Multi-instrumentalist, Tom Scheponik (Gringo Motel / Mercury Radio Theatre) to play organ, followed later by Larry TK (Dead Spot / Percocettes) on drums. Baring roots of everything from Eastern European to Spaghetti Western music, Scheponik added some of the key components that craft the band's dark and textured sound. With TK's hard hitting rhythms bringing it all up front, the result is a thought provoking, impressionistic band with hints of 60's psychedelia. Undeniably rock, yet open for interpretation.
