Donald Sterling's ex-girlfriend V. Stiviano 'made up' attack to 'stay famous,' Diorio's lawyer says

A lawyer for V. Stiviano's alleged attacker says the former girlfriend of disgraced Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling "made up" her account of the attack to "stay famous."
Dominick Diorio did not speak with the press after a brief appearance in Manhattan Criminal Court on Wednesday, but his attorney David Scott Smith said he believes Stiviano's allegations will "begin to fail."
"My client vehemently denies each and every allegation that she has made against him," Smith said.
Diorio was initially charged with assault and committing a hate crime, but the hate crime charge has been dropped and the most serious charge he faces now is third-degree assault, a misdemeanor that carries a maximum sentence of a year in prison.
Diorio was celebrating his 40th birthday with friends at the Revel restaurant last weekend when the alleged incident took place.
Stiviano alleges that Diorio began arguing with her inside the restaurant before following her and her two female dining companions outside, where he attacked and uttered racial epithets at Stiviano, who has half black and half Mexican.
Photos that appear to show Stiviano with a bruised and swollen face were published by the Daily Mail earlier this week.
Stiviano rose to fame after she recorded Donald Sterling making racist remarks about African Americans.
Smith told reporters after Diorio's hearing that Stiviano invented the attack to "keep her name in the spotlight."
"Simply put, a credible victim of a crime does not have her attorney call the press before she calls the police," Smith said.
"Miss Stiviano seems intent on keeping her name in the spotlight. But I can assure you if this case goes to trial, my cross-examination will last longer than her 15 minutes of fame."
