Shannon Maureen Conley was arrested by FBI agents at Denver's international airport in April and charged with attempting to aid the jihadist militant group ISIS, according to court documents unsealed on Wednesday.
Authorities began investigating Conley in November after she was spotted by a security guard suspiciously taking notes on the grounds of a Colorado church where a 2007 shooting occurred.
When questioned about the incident, the Muslim convert told an agent she hated "those people" and "if they think I'm a terrorist, I'll give them something to think I am."
The 19-year-old underwent military training with an army cadet program in February and her parents told authorities she began to practice marksmanship at a local firing range.
At some point last year Conley began chatting via Skype with a 32-year-old Tunisian man, identified in court documents only as Y.M., who claimed to be fighting with ISIS in Syria.
Conley asked for her father's blessing for her to travel to Syria to marry the man.
After being tipped off by her father, FBI agents arrested Conley in April at Denver International Airport trying to board a plane to Turkey.
