An 80-year-old Taiwanese woman got lost in the mountains in Hualien for four days and was kept company by a mysterious ghost couple.
The woman from Hsinchu, surnamed Wu, wandered off during a visit to Hualien with her family on June 28. Police found her four days later by a brook three kilometers from where she was last seen.
Security camera footage shows the elderly woman initially walking slowly through the forest, but her pace suddenly becomes brisk.
She later claimed a little girl in a red dress and holding a red umbrella led her to a brook, where she survived for the next four days by drinking water. Wu added that an old couple visited her there every night.
A local forest ranger said it was incredible that Wu survived the ordeal, since no trail or path led to the spot where she was found. A hiker would have to wade through water or climb into the ridges to get there.
Mrs. Wu's son said he believed the mysterious couple who kept his mother company were the God and Goddess of Land.
A psychiatrist said Wu may have experienced optical and auditory hallucinations caused by famine and dehydration.
