The CEO of a Chicago tech company is in “grave” condition after being shot by an employee Thursday morning.

54-year-old Steve LaVoie, chief executive of ArrowStream was shot shortly before 10:00 am in an apparent, “workplace dispute” authorities said.

Last Friday the gunman, 59-year-old Anthony DeFrancis, the company’s CTO had been demoted. According to reports, DeFrancis requested a one-on-one meeting with LaVoie and shortly after entering his office, pulled a gun on him.

Police say a struggle broke out between the two that ended with LaVoie being shot twice, once in the chest and one in the head. DeFrancis then turned the weapon on himself.
