Timothy Ray Jones Jr. confesses to killing his five missing children and hiding them in plastic bags

A six-day search for five children missing in South Carolina ended on Tuesday, after the children’s father confessed to killing them and led police to the spot where he had discarded the bodies.
The father of five children reported missing in South Carolina on September 3, Timothy Ray Jones Jr. appeared to be driving under the influence and was detained by officers at a driver’s license checkpoint in Raleigh, Mississippi on Saturday.
Jones’ car reeked of chemicals, which authorities believe had been used to produce methanamine and some synthetic marijuana, WLTX 19 reported. There was also bleach, muriatic acid, blood and possibly body fluids in his SUV.
Police officers searched their database after arresting Jones and found that the man was related to the five missing children. Upon receiving the alert, officers from South Carolina traveled to Mississippi to investigate the case and question Jones.
During questioning late on Monday night Jones confessed to killing his children, aged between one and eight, and then led officers to Camden, Alabama, where he had dumped the bodies of his five children in five separate plastic bags.
The father was the primary legal guardian of the five after a divorce and lived near Lexington, South Carolina. His ex-wife complained that she often could not contact Jones.
Authorities have not yet established a motive for the crime. The remains will be transported to South Carolina for autopsies and identification.
