Sex offender city: Rapists, paedophiles, and NAMBLA members move to City of Refuge - TomoNews

Welcome to City of Refuge. Tucked between the sugar cane fields of Pahokee, Florida, far far away from any public school, playground, or bus-stop, is a community of 120 sex offenders. Some are even married and a few have kids.
City of Refuge, formerly known as Miracle City, was founded by Dick Witherow who was seeking to help convicted offenders, whom Witherow likened to modern day lepers. All of the men are employed by Witherow's organization, Matthew 25 Ministries.
The state of Florida doesn't differentiate much between offenses—a sex offender is a sex offender. And it's darn near impossible to find housing when you're branded with the scarlet letters reserved for society's lowest of the low.
The ankle bracelet fashion trend is guaranteed never to go out of style. A search through public records of zip code 33476 may very well make you feel a bit squeamish.
But it's probably good thing that these guys have place to call home—that's not right next door to you.
