Mexico: Drug Cartels Infiltrate Gov't Security Agencies

The New Generation drug cartel, which operates in the western Mexican state of Jalisco, is said to have infiltrated many levels of government security agencies. The cartel, now one of the country's largest, was responsible for a wave of violence in western Mexico last weekend. It is reportedly largely comprised of former military and police officials and has developed its own sophisticated military strategy. Unlike other cartels, New Generation has focused its efforts on the European and Asian as opposed to the U.S. market, enabling it to grow in wealth and power.
