MQM Founder and Leader Altaf Hussain telephoned the head of Sunni Itttehad Council Sahibzada Hamid Raza and offered heartfelt condolences on the death of their leader Tariq Mahboob in custody.
He said the martyrdom of Tariq Mahboob was unfortunate and highly condemnable.
Mr Hussain said he had talked to brothers of Tariq Mahboob, who informed him that Tariq Mahboob was subjected to brutal physical torture in custody that lead to his death.
Mr Raza told Mr Hussain that Sunni Ittehad Council had decided it would not support the PTI in the by-election for NA – 246. A raid was conducted on the home of Tariq Mahboob after this decision. Six persons including his brother and nephew were arrested.
“Earlier it was said no case is registered against Tariq Mahboob and we will release him. Two days ago when he was presented in a court, no charge was brought against him.”
Mr Raza said Tariq Mahboob was subjected to brutal physical torture in the custody that needs to be investigated.
“We also demand operation against criminals but the circumstances have made it clear that the operation is being conducted against one organization only which is a gross injustice.”
“If the operation continued in this manner then the real targets will remain elusive.”
Mr Raza further said, “We are supporting the Army in the war against terrorism and Taliban. We are at a loss at the treatment being given to us.”
Mr Hussain agreed with the views of Mr Raza and added that instead of taking action against Taliban, ISIS, Lashkar-i-Jhangvi and other banned outfits only a particular party is being victimized.
Mr Raza thanked Mr Hussain for extending support and expressing solidarity in the time of grief. He thanked Mr Hussain and the MQM leadership.
