Thelma, Louise and Big Red are eight year old chickens that was rescued by Hooves and Paws. They came in together and have always been together so they are inseparable. They eat, sleep and do everything together so they truly are bonded. These chickens are considered pets. An ideal home would be enclosed for protection and zoned for chickens. If you'd like to adopt Thelma, Big Red and Louise go to hoovesandpaws.org.

00:00We first heard about Thelma, Louise, and Big Red when we received a call from a woman who told us that her daughter had them as pets but had moved out and no longer wanted to keep them.
00:10The woman fortunately called us instead of sending them to a high kill shelter. She was looking for a no kill shelter for them where she knew that they would be safe.
00:20We've had Thelma, Louise, and Big Red here at Hooves and Paws for about three years.
00:25They lived together at their previous home. They came here together and you can just always see them together hanging out.
00:33They're always together like three best friends, like kind of in high school when you have to have your friends by your sides.
00:40They have a bunch of different personalities. They collide sometimes, but they're so sweet and caring.
00:47The best thing about them is we always see them sleeping together, so they roost up on their roosting poles and they're always the three of them in a line.
00:55They do everything together. They sleep together, they eat together. It's so sweet and so caring.
01:00All three of the chickens are very, very sweet and very friendly. Big Red's probably the friendliest. She's the one that likes the most attention.
01:08Chickens are great pets. They're great companions. They love people. They're very curious. They have very big personalities.
01:16They love to follow you around. They love to be petted and they love to get treats.
01:21Here at Hooves and Paws, we rescue abused, abandoned, and neglected animals and we rehabilitate them.
01:29We try to find new homes for them and adopt them out, and those who are not adopted are kept here at our sanctuary for the rest of their lives.
01:37Chickens are definitely the new fad pet. A lot more chickens are ending up in the shelters, and that creates much more of a need for no-kill shelters like ours at Hooves and Paws to take care of them at our sanctuary for the rest of their lives.
01:51Thelma, Louise, and Big Red are about eight years old. Chickens can live into their teens, about 14 to 16 years, so they still have a lot of life left in them.
02:01Thelma, Louise, and Big Red are very happy here, but every animal deserves their own home.
02:07So we're looking for a great home for Thelma, Louise, and Big Red, one where they're going to be loved and appreciated and kept safe for the rest of their lives.
02:15Well, the main thing when wanting to adopt a chicken is making sure that you're zoned to have chickens.
02:21You want to provide a safe place for them, something that's covered to protect them from hawks and owls.
02:27And basically, other than that, they're very easy to take care of. You just need food and water and some roosting poles and nest boxes.
02:38They're special because they are just very sweet and friendly, and I love the fact that they are always together, that they have this incredible bond with each other.
