Berlin tackles shortage of skilled labour

Germany has a shortage of skilled labour, a problem set to intensify. The population is ageing and the job market will have a dearth of almost 7 million people over the next 10 years. To counteract this, Berlin plans to introduce an immigration system based on the Canadian model, with a points system to pre-select the most qualified workers and welcome them with great fanfare. But will this solve Germany’s current problems?
