Self-arson? Retired Japanese chief police in Utsunomiya burns down own house

Firemen have one of the most dangerous jobs in the world, which is why we often hail them as heroes and make Hollywood movies about them. Not to say that the praise isn’t well earned, though.
But in a bizarre twist, Monday night, in central Japan, the retired former fire chief of the city of Utsunomiya, set his own home ablaze! The former fire chief was 70 years old, living at home with his son and running a karaoke joint on the side.
He has since been arrested but no reason has been given as to why he would burn down his own house.
He had thoroughly doused the interior of the home with gasoline and stayed inside to ensure that the fire was in full blaze before evacuating the house. No one was killed in the fire, but the house was completely gutted.
The former fire chief escaped with just minor injuries to his forehead and left ankle from flash burns, but it really is a puzzler as to why this old retiree would choose to burn his house down when he spent his entire career putting out fires.
