Burglary fail: Denver druggie tries breaking into deputy’s home with a brick in broad daylight
A Denver man was arrested Sunday morning in Green Valley Ranch for smashing several windows and successfully breaking into one home.
A victim said Roberto Garcia, 28, used a brick to shatter the front window of her home around 8 a.m.
She said she was at home with her son and husband at the time.
Her husband, a local deputy, retrieved his gun before going outside to confront the man.
According to reports, Garcia took off down the block and started smashing the window of another home.
The deputy pursued Garcia and reportedly ordered him to put his hands down, but Garcia successfully broke through the window and landed in the living room of the home, where a teenager and his friends were sleeping.
One of the teenagers reportedly hit Garcia several times before letting the deputy into his home.
The deputy held Garcia until police arrived several minutes later.
Witnesses said Garcia seemed unable to speak English, and that he appeared to be on drugs.
Other witnesses reported seeing Garcia jumping over fences and wandering around the neighborhood before he broke the first window.
Police said he initially refused to give his name.
He was arrested and taken to the hospital for injuries he sustained from the shattered glass.
Police charged Garcia with burglary, criminal mischief and possession of an illegal substance.
