Iran bombs ISIS: Aging Iranian F-4 jets hit militant targets in eastern Iraq

Iranian aircraft have carried out air strikes against Islamic State (ISIS) militants in eastern Iraq, the Pentagon has said.

US officials said the US had indications that Iranian F-4 Phantoms had launched several raids in recent days on Islamic State targets in Diyala Province which borders Iran.

An Al-Jazeera cameraman recorded footage of a jet flying over the region that was later identified as an Iranian F-4.

The US has a policy against cooperating with Iran but Secretary of State John Kerry said at a meeting of coalition allies that if Iran is attacking the militant group then “the net effect is positive.”

Iran has reportedly provide Iraq with aircraft, and strategic advice in its fight against ISIS.

Iranian officials have refused to confirm the reports.
