Court fail, London court fails to realize witness is not speaking English during hour long testimony

A woman from Sierra Leone accused UK-African preacher Gilbert Deya of raping her for the past eight years. She came from Sierra Leone in 2003 and initially went to Deya after being convinced by her friends that he was the only man able to cure her of the voices in her head. She said that she’d become pregnant and Deya forced her to have an abortion, then she also explained that Deya had molested her daughter.
It seems like a straightforward testimony, however it took an hour before the London court realized the alleged rape victim wasn’t speaking English. She was, in fact, speaking Krio, a language native to Sierra Leone Creole people and spoken by 97% of the population.
It wasn’t until the court clerk, also originally from Sierra Leone, told Judge Nicholas Madge about the language issue that the judge struck upon the idea of providing an interpreter.
