Shooting at Ambassador Bridge: Gun-wielding Canadian shot by U.S. customs agents

A Canadian man who has had “previous encounters” with Canadian law enforcement was shot early Sunday by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers on Ambassador Bridge, U.S. customs officials told CTV.

Canadian police were summoned to the parking lot of a McDonald’s in Windsor, Ontario at around 2:40 a.m. on Sunday. The caller reported that someone with a gun was in the area.

The gun-wielding man left his black Ford Explorer and approached the fast food restaurant.

Officers told him to drop his gun. The man reportedly said to the police, “Why haven’t you shot me yet?” He then fled in his car.

The gun-wielding man crossed the Ambassador Bridge and entered U.S. territory. He stopped before the inspection booth and walked towards the U.S. customs officers. He waved his firearm at the officers, who fired at him. He was wounded and sent to the hospital.

The Canadian man is now in police custody in the U.S.
