California machete attack: Cop shoots dead teen who attacked him with machete

A Humboldt County California Highway patrolman fatally shot a 17-year-old male driver who attacked him with a machete, officials said Saturday.
The CHP has not released the name of the officer or the teenager who was killed.
On December 17 at 1:30 a.m. the officer was responding to a call of a single car accident near Willow Creek.
When the officer arrived at the scene he found a Nissan had struck a telephone pole, the Eureka Times-Standard reported.
When the officer approached the 17-year-old driver to see if he needed help, the teen pulled out a machete, attacking the officer.
The officer was badly wounded in the face, left arm and hand. The officer fired several shots at his assailant and then retreated to his patrol car to call for backup.
When the second officer arrived, he said the wounded teen was naked, behaving erratically, and refused to respond to commands.
The second officer tased the teen, and then with the help of a few Good Samaritans handcuffed the suspect, who died at the scene.
The wounded patrolman was airlifted to UC Davis Medical Center with very serious injuries, the newspaper reported.
