Italy migrant ship: second abandoned ship spotted within a week

Italian authorities are conducting a rescue operation for an abandoned ship with over 400 migrants on board reported late Thursday.

The abandoned boat was identified as the Sierra Leone-registered Ezadeen with 450 migrants on board. It was floating 65km off southeastern tip of Italy, France 24 reported.

One of the migrants on board managed to sent out a distress call, reporting that the crew members of the ship were missing, according to the BBC.

The ship had been spotted by an Italian coastguard plane shortly after nightfall. It had been moving at seven knots before losing power, reported by France 24.

The incident came just two days after Italian authorities rescued another abandoned ship with almost 1,000 migrants, BBC reported.
