Air rifle bank robbery: California man sticks up Bank of America branch with pellet gun

A bank robber brandishing what turned out to be nothing more than an air rifle robbed an Orange County bank on Tuesday.

At around 3pm, Orange County Sheriff’s deputies said Vu Hoan Le, 39, entered the Bank of America in Newport Beach. Le went up to a teller and brandished a weapon demanding money. He then fled the scene.

Law enforcement dispatched a helicopter unit to track the fleeing suspect. Le scaled an 8-foot wall as he ran from officers, but injured himself and was quickly taken into custody.

Deputies are investigating if Le was involved in other crimes in the area.
