50 year plane crash mystery solved: Climbers find wreckage of Green Cross soccer team

Climbers in the Chilean Andes made a startling discovery that answers the first question in a series about a downed flight that has been missing for over fifty years.

The mountaineers say they’ve found the wreckage of a crash that killed 24 people, including 8 members of Chile’s top division Green Cross soccer team.

The Green Cross team were returning to Santiago after their latest match and disappeared on April 3, 1961. The team had split up and taken two separate flights, one making multiple stops before returning to Santiago. The doomed flight was a direct flight to Santiago, which never landed at its destination.

The exact location of the crash site is being kept secret to keep looting to a minimum while authorities investigate and hopefully answer more questions, such as what caused the flight to crash 54 years ago.
