White House car crash: drunk Secret Service agents drove car into barricades

Two senior Secret Service agents allegedly crashed a government car into White House barricades after drinking at a party on March 4.

The incident began after the two Secret Service agents reportedly attended a party to celebrate the retirement of Edwin Donovon, the former spokesman for the Secret Service, the New York Times reported.

The two agents have been identified as Mark Connolly, the second-in-command on Obama’s detail and George Ogilvie, a senior supervisor in the Washington field office, according to the Washington Post.

On their way back to the White House, the two agents tried to enter from an entrance that was closed with security tape due to an investigation of a suspicious package, according to the New York Times.

Witnesses said the agents switched on the overhead emergency lights and showed both their badges to try to get through the closed section, the Washington Post reported. The agents then ran the car through the security tape and crashed into the barricade.

“The Secret Service is aware of the allegations of misconduct involving two of our employees at the White House complex,” Brian Leary, a spokesman for the Secret Service told the New York Times. “If misconduct is identified, appropriate action will be taken based on established rules and regulations.”
