Deadly allergic reaction: Teen with serious milk allergy dies after eating pancakes, family sues

The Johnson family of Bemidji, Minn. is suing a local diner for serving Scott Johnson, 16, his last meal.

Scott was highly allergic to dairy pancakes, so the family rarely ate in restaurants. One June morning, they went to the Minnesota Nice Cafe and explained Johnson's allergy.

The staff reportedly assured Scott they would serve him dairy free pancakes and clean the kitchen stove before cooking them.

But immediately upon finishing his meal, Scott could tell he was having an allergic reaction.

"He had just finished and said 'we have to go now," his mother, Cindy Johnson, said.

Scott had left his epipen at home that day. The family rushed to the house to get it, but Scott had already gone into intense anaphylactic shock.

He was life flighted to a hospital, but died three days later.

The family is suing the cafe, and a family friend set up a Go Fund Me account to help them cover the medical bills.
