Dash cam footage captures car bursting into flames after police use taser gun

A family in California is suing the federal government over the death of 25-year-old Alex Martin, who died after border patrol officers shot a taser through his car window, causing the vehicle to explode.

Martin's parents filed the complaint over a year ago, but dashcam footage is shedding new light on the case.

In the video, several plainclothes officers approach Martin's vehicle. One of them breaks the passenger window and then fires a taser gun, even though Martin does not appear to try to get out of the vehicle.

An explosion throws the officer backwards and the car erupts in flames.

The officers then deliberate before driving away from the scene, despite reportedly having access to fire extinguishers.

"For some reason, even though each of those cars had a fire extinguisher readily within reach, none of them used their fire extinguishers – or tried to used their fire extinguishers, or tried to help Alex – who was burning to death inside this car," said attorney Gene Iredale, who is representing Martin's case.

The federal government is reportedly looking to dismiss the case due to Alex's criminal history.
