NSA shooting: One dead in shootout outside spy agency headquarters after SUV tries to ram its way in

One person is dead and two more injured following a shootout near the National Security Agency's headquarters in Fort Meade, Maryland on Monday morning, according to a Reuters report.

The exact motives behind the incident, which involved two male suspects who were dressed as women and may be transgender, remain unclear, but authorities do not believe the episode was linked to terrorism.

Driving a stolen vehicle, the two unidentified suspects rammed through the agency's entrance gates at around 9:30 a.m. in what the NSA, in a press release cited by Reuters, referred to as an attempt at unauthorized entry into the compound.

The vehicle reportedly crashed into a police car.

Following an argument with a guard, gunfire erupted, leaving one of the men and a police officer injured and the other suspect dead, according to a Fox News report.

The shooting represents the second such incident involving gunfire at the NSA this month.
