Rand Paul has put his name forward as a Republican presidential nominee.
The Kentucky Senator has confirmed he wants to join the race to become the party’s candidate in 2016.
He is now the second Republican to officially join the campaign, following Texas Senator Ted Cruz.
Paul said: “Too often when Republicans have won, we have squandered our victory by becoming part of the Washington machine. That’s not who I am.”
The 52-year-old is a former eye surgeon and described as a libertarian.
He has often criticised his own party for supporting high federal spending and increased regulation.
