On this week's The INNERview, we will take you to meet Lee Eun-gyeol, who is indisputably one of the top illusionists in Korea. We headed to the Chungmu Art Hall, where he is staging The Illusion, a spectacular magic show that bedazzles the audiences with jaw-dropping performances and visual effects.
Since its launch in 2010, The Illusion has continually evolved, and it has received acclaim as an all-encompassing artistic performance. This show is a product of bringing together the know-hows and experiences he has gained over the past 19 years, and it encompasses creative and original performances. In addition to the fundamental magic tricks, the award-winning illusionist also presents "metalusion (meta+illusion)," incorporating magic with modern technology, "finger ballet," performed using only his hands without any auxiliary devices or deceptions, and a shadow illusion play called "The Dream of Africa." Each performance reveals the essence of magic as a performing art and conveys a deep, inspirational message that moves the audience members, even to tears for some.
Lee Eun-gyeol has continually been collaborating with artists from various sectors as part of his effort to change people's perception of magic as merely tricks. He has even been invited to perform at a domestic arts festival that is set to be held this coming May as well as an overseas event. There had also been plans to organize a joint ballet performance between our host, Kang Ye-na, and Lee Eun-gyeol, but unfortunately, the plan fell through due to the stage being in an unsuitable condition.
