PATTI SMITH ‎– "Glitter In Their Eyes" (Unofficial video, 2000)

On 21 March 2000 Patti Smith’s eighth studio album GUNG HO was released simultaneously on both sides of the Atlantic, preceded on 02 February by upbeat rock song "Glitter in Their Eyes" which was released as the only single out of that album in a promo CD format only.

"Glitter in Their Eyes" was written by Patti Smith and Oliver Ray, produced by Gil Norton and engineered by Danton Supple. It was recorded at Sear Sound recording studio in NYC, mixed at Eden Studios in London, and mastered by Ted Jensen and Paul Angelli at Sterling Sound in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, NYC.

Additional musicians for the single include: Michael Stipe (of R.E.M.) and Wade Raley providing backing vocals and Tom Verlaine (frontman for the New York rock band Television) providing the solo guitar work.

"Glitter in Their Eyes" is Patti Smith's bitter rant against the rampant materialism of the youth culture and condemns the commercialization and corruption of modern life, warning the young ones against being simply mindless consumers.

Surprisingly enough, the song didn’t make any impact on neither the UK nor the US charts, yet in the following year 2001, "Glitter in Their Eyes" was nominated for Grammy Award for "Best Female Rock Vocal Performance", Patti Smith's second time after the song "1959" got nominated in 1998.

[Note: Since there wasn’t an official promo-video ever filmed, I made this unofficial one to accompany this 'hook-laden anthemic' track.]
