Its Western Wednesdays again. Julie Marlene Bedra, better known to country music fans as Rosalie Allen, was born to a Polish immigrant family in Pennsylvania in 1924. As a teen listening to her radio in the late 1930's, she was influenced by Patsy Montana, and The Girls of the Golden west and most especially, their yodeling. In the early 1940's, she became the vocalist for the Denver Darlings in New York and was billed as The Queen of the Yodelers. The band also released records as The Tex Grande Band and it was with Tex Grande that Rosie made her first recordings as their featured vocalist.
Rosalie also worked as a DJ on WOV in New York where, for 10 years+, her Prairie Stars radio show introduced New Yorkers to country sounds. Rosie signed with Victor in 1948, Her first recording was a cover of her former idol, Patsy Montana's "I Want To Be A Cowboy's Sweetheart". Rosie would not limit herself to country though. She sang gospel, early rockabilly, jazz, country, and western swing as she has done with this 78 of Silver Wings. In 1947, she appeared in Carnegie Hall's first ever country music concert.
This is my fifth attempt at uploading a vid tonight. Each of the other 4 songs are already on DM, but I was simply given the message "BLACKLISTED". This is more than coincidence as it is now 10 failures in 4 weeks. It is frustrating and I will not be seen on DaMn for a while.
