Dale E. Victorine - Ballade for Piano No. 3 in A minor, Op.17

My Ballade for Piano No. 3 was written in 1977, and completed a day before my 21st birthday. One might ask, “Why so somber?” I wrote it thinking about how a new and special friend was soon to be moving away. The piece is a good example of the harmonic style I was developing. There are elements of the Renaissance, Ravel & Satie. The feeling is one of a gentle, majestic resignation, contrasted with moments of remembered happiness.
