Discovery Channel has imagined the consequences of the impact of an asteroid 500 km in diameter on Earth. This animated video simulates the extinction of life on our good old blue planet in an apocalyptic scenario. A gigantic asteroid falls right in the Pacific Ocean and impact then pierces the Earth's surface for 10 km. The devastating shockwave travels at supersonic speeds and destroys everything in its path. Subsequently, a firestorm encircles the planet and eradicate all life on earth. 24 hours later, no species has survived the disaster.
