The incident occurred on Tuesday evening and after first responders arrived on scene, the child was transported to the hospital where his condition was initially listed as critical.
About an hour after the North Las Vegas Police Department confirmed the incident on Facebook, a follow-up post noted that the boy had subsequently died.
An investigation was launched to determine the circumstances of how his head became stuck in the metal security gate. Detectives remained on scene hours after the incident and spoke to witnesses, some of whom are children.
