Korea's leading automaker Hyundai Motor appears to be having quite a hard time on its home-turf,... as imported brands continue to make inroads here.
A Hyundai official, speaking on condition of anonymity,... says it will be hard for the company to secure a 40-percent market share in Korea by the end of the year... if no measures to counter foreign competition are taken.
The automaker's market share in January fell to below 40 percent... and industry watchers say the February figure could drop even further,... since there were fewer work days due to the Lunar New Year holiday.
Hyundai's market share last year stood at roughly 41 percent, while its affiliate Kia Motors stood at 28 percent.
That's the first time their combined market share has dropped below 70 percent since Hyundai and Kia merged in 1998.
