Hundreds attend funeral of gunman behind Copenhagen terror attacks

Hundreds of mourners have attended the funeral of gunman Omar Abdel Hamid El-Hussein, who shot dead two people and wounded five others, in terror attacks this month at a free speech event and a synagogue in Copenhagen.

The 22-year-old Danish Muslim of Palestinian origin was buried in an unmarked grave.

An avid kick boxer in his younger years growing up in a relatively poor immigrant community, El-Hussein was known as a good student who had a short temper and grew increasingly frustrated over personal issues.

He became known for violence and gang activity, and was jailed for stabbing a man.

Reports emerged that he had served time in prison with a Muslim radical but intelligence services concluded there was no risk of an attack even as prison officials raised the alarm that his behaviour was changing.
