Full compliance with Minsk key to peace in Ukraine, says Hollande

France and Germany are more convinced than ever that the Minsk agreements aimed at resolving an ongoing crisis in Ukraine should be fully implemented and a ceasefire observed.

French President Francois Hollande was speaking at a joint news conference with German chancellor Angela Merkel in Paris.

“There are risks which will increase if the truce is not respected,” said Hollande. So our attention must focus on full compliance with the ceasefire. Our intention is not to impose sanctions but to achieve peace in Ukraine.”

He added that any country party to the Minsk agreements which failed to respect them would face sanctions.

Speaking about Greece, Merkel said there needs to be a significant improvement in the country’s request for further aid but she wants to keep Greece in the eurozone.
