Warsaw, summer 1944. Stefan (Joseph Pawlowski) takes care of his mother and younger brother. Took over as head of the family after his father – an officer of the Polish Army – was killed in the September Campaign in 1939. Wedel works in a factory, with increasing difficulty enduring humiliation on the part of the Germans.
