Hand Plunger Toy

A very old fashioned mechanism, although early versions were made of tin and not of plastic.

Push the trigger with your thumb a few times, and the birthday cake spins faster and faster, until the four segments open up to reveal the birthday bear in the middle.

Then, as the spinning slows down, the four segments close up again, the birthday bear vanished from view, and we are just left with the cake again.
