Genocide trial of Guatemala's former dictator suspended

The defense of Guatemalan ex-dictator Jose Efrain Rios Montt presented an objection to a public oral hearing in the trial against him for genocide and crimes against humanity because they say the judge in charge of the case, Janeth Valdez, already has an opinion on his culpability as expressed in her master's degree thesis over a decade ago. The hearing was suspended and a new venue will be appointed to address the case against Rios Montt forhis role in the genocide of close to 2,000 indigenous people in his country. teleSUR
