Bangladesh protests turn deadly on election anniversary

Heated tension in Bangladesh, on the anniversary of their violent national polls.

Ruling party and opposition activists face-off in the streets, leaving two protesters dead and scores injured.

Here, a ruling Awami League Party supporter attacks a BNP supporter in Dhaka.

Despite police warnings, opposition leader Begum Khaleda Zia refuses to call off rallies, on what the party says is the "democracy killing day."

Khaleda has called for a nationwide blockade of roads, railways and waterways. She says the current government is "undemocratic and illegal" and is demanding fresh polls.

Bangladesh has seen political uncertainty since last January, when the Awami League came to power for a second term after a bloody parliamentary election.
