A shipwreck is towed to port, but its story is far from over..

Investigators pick through the charred remains of the Italian car ferry that caught fire off the coast of Greece and left at least 11 dead.

They try to peace together what happened when hundreds were stranded on a burning ferry, surrounded by freezing waters, waiting for help.

The ship's captain, Agilio Giacomazzi, says is pains him to think some didn't make it out alive.

(SOUNDBITE) (Italian) FERRY CAPTAIN, AGILIO GIACOMAZZI, SAYING:

"I just don't know what else to say. Heroes are useless. We just need to think about those who are not here anymore. We tried to do everything we could, with God's help we gave everything. Compliments, no, I am just thinking about those who are no longer here. I wanted to bring everyone home but sadly we just couldn't do it."

This Greek survivor tells a different story.

He says he did not hear any alarms when he saw the inferno.
