The race for the USA's best selling album of 2014 couldn't have been tighter. Disney's 'Frozen' soundtrack dominated the US album charts throughout the year.

But it was Taylor Swift's '1989' that finished as 2014's best seller, overtaking 'Frozen' at the last minute.

'1989' sold an unprecedented 3.66 million copies after just nine weeks on sale.

It was also a remarkable breakthrough year for Britain's Sam Smith whose debut album came in third on sales, and racked up six Grammy nominations.

In the UK, Ed Sheeran had the best selling album with his sophomore record 'x' which also topped the US charts.

Sam Smith came in second, while newcomer singer-songwriter George Ezra came in third with his debut album 'Wanted on Voyage.'
