North Korean on leader's speech: "We will wage the struggle"

Some North Koreans express support for for leader Kim Jong Un's after he says he is open for talks with South Korea in his New Year's address.

(SOUNDBITE) (Korean) PYONGYANG RESIDENT TAK JU HYON SAYING:

"We put up important proposals and did a lot of things for unification of our nation. Upholding the Songun revolutionary leadership of our dear leader, we will wage the struggle for unification this year."

Per tradition, the North Korean leader also visited the mausoleum of his late father, Kim Jung Il on New Year's Day.

Pyongyang has previously signaled it was seeking better relations with Seoul, but U.S.-South Korean military exercises have stalled such efforts.
