"We heard people screaming" -Ferry survivor

A terrifying experience off the coast of Greece, where passengers aboard an Italian car ferry that caught fire didn't know if they would make it out alive.

Survivors brought to Brindisi, Italy recount their ordeal.

(SOUNDBITE) (Italian) RESCUED PASSENGER SOKRAT QENDRO, ITALIAN RESIDENT OF ALBANIAN ORIGIN, SAYING:

"We heard people screaming and running out of their cabins and so we left ours as well and then we saw the smoke coming out from the ship and grabbed the life vests under the beds and went out to the deck, dressed in what ever we were wearing at that moment. Outside we couldn't see anything because it was dark."

Surrounded by frigid waters as their ship burned, one passenger from Germany could only hope help would reach them in time.
