Ferry victim's body makes it to Brindisi, Renzi mourns the loss

A body from an Italian ferry that caught fire off the Greek coast arrives in Brindisi, Italy. It's just one of eight fatalities known so far.

Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi says that of the hundreds on board, it's lucky the rescue operation wasn't a total loss.

(SOUNDBITE) (Italian) ITALIAN PRIME MINISTER, MATTEO RENZI, SAYING:

"My thoughts and my prayers go to the families of the victims and to those who helped avoid a massacre at sea. An operation so full of dedication, tenacity, determination and passion carried out by our men has helped us avoid a real, concrete massacre."

Hospital officials say respiratory issues related to smoke inhalation is their primary concern in treating survivors.

While the evacuation has been completed -- the ferry at sea is still burning.
