The fate of a German shepherd is now up in the air due to the deceased owner’s last will and testament. According to attorneys for Connie Lay, two options were given after her death for her dog Bela's future.

Doug Denmure, Lay's lawyer, prepared the documentation. He explained “She made provisions in the will that either the dog be placed with Best Friends Animal Society, in Utah, or otherwise be put to sleep and cremated with the dog's ashes combined with the client's ashes.”

Denmure said the 105-pound dog had exhibited vicious behavior in the past, all which had been documented by Lay. Bela was going to be euthanized on Tuesday morning because of the note in the Lay’s will. However Twitter users began sharing the story and using the hashtag #SaveBela to prevent the canine from being put down.

The euthanization was put on hold and now Bela’s fate is up to those listed in Lay’s estate. For now, the dog is staying at PAWS of Dearborn County Humane Center in Indiana.

In order for her to be sent to the Utah facility mentioned in the will, funds will have to be raised to ensure she can get the care needed for the rest of her life.

Lay passed away on November 25th and according to her lawyer, nobody could enter the home after she died due to the dog’s aggression. Those who are providing care for Bela, however, say she hasn’t been vicious.
