Pakistan's military shows bloodied interior of Peshawar school

The aftermath of a killing spree by Taliban militants on a school in Peshawar, Pakistan, that left 148 people dead -- most of them children.

A Pakistani military spokesman says everyone is in shock.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) MILITARY SPOKESMAN, MAJOR-GENERAL ASIM SALEEM BAJWA, SAYING:

"We are all sad, we are angered, we are sickened. I think there is nothing that could happen worse than this."

The Taliban released a statement saying they chose to attack the military-run high school because government forces were targeting their women and families.

In response to the massacre, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif lifted a moratorium on the death penalty... and vowed to crack down on the Taliban insurgency, who are fighting to impose strict Islamic rule in the country.
