USA: HUGE mudslide buries homes in Southern California

An unstoppable mass of earth and rock swept through a Southern California neighborhood and covered several houses, smashing through the doors and windows and flooding into living rooms and bedrooms.

Friday's ‘Pineapple Express’ storm unleashed a barrage of mud and stones, forcing about 1000 homes to be placed under evacuation.

At least 13 homes were declared unlivable in Camarillo Springs, with 10 being completely off-limits and residents being able to retrieve personal belongings from 3 others.

The trouble started May 2013 when a massive brush fire raged across the embankment, clearing it of vegetation, which helps to keep soil together.

The cleanup operation to remove the huge piles of muck and rubble is now underway and we hope that the situation will get back to normal soon.
