Sao Paolo suffers second day of floods

ROUGH CUT - NO REPORTER NARRATION

Residents in Sao Paulo struggled with flooding on Thursday (December 11) after two days of heavy rain pounded parts of the city and the larger metropolitan area.

Power was out in some neighbourhoods and water several feet deep inundated roads and damaged homes and businesses.

For many residents in Brazil's largest city, Thursday started with clean-up after an afternoon downpour on Wednesday (December 10) dumped up to 60 millimetres (2.36 inches) of rain on some neighbourhoods.

But many of them struggled in vain after a repeat storm doubled down on the damage Thursday evening.

The two days of wet weather had only minimal effects on Sao Paulo's stressed reservoirs which have been at critically low levels due to a prolonged drought in the state, the worst in 80 years.
