Pharrell "Happy" over Hollywood star

STORY: Record producer and singer-songwriter Pharrell Williams received the 2,537th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Thursday (December 4), honoring an artist who has sold more than 100 million copies of his productions and won seven Grammys.

Williams, 41, was a teenage prodigy and multi-instrumentalist in his hometown of Virginia Beach, Virginia.

"I was once encouraged by, they call them teachers but I call them the folks that conspired to get me here, my music teachers and my grandmother, who figured that while I was using her soup spoons and her whisks and her pillows as a drum set, that maybe there might be something there. So she bought me my first snare drum and that lead me to my first teacher," said Williams.

Williams received a best original song Oscar nomination this year for writing "Happy" from the animated film "Despicable Me 2."

"Happy" topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 10 consecutive weeks and peaked
